Description: gold and rhodium plated base metal, rhinestones, baguettes, fruit salads
Marked: Trifari with Crown, Pat Pend
Reference: Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2 p 98, wrongly dated 1941. The earlier 1941 unpatented designs, which this pin revisits, had three sprays - see TKF4748, TKF3811. Advertised for sale at Harvey's, price $40 plus tax, in the [Nashville] Tennessean, 29 Dec 1948, p 5; click thumbnail above to view advertisement. The spangled gold, and the presence of a clasp for one prong of the pin clip, confirm the 1948 date. The matching necklace in the advert was patented (149837) in June 1948; there is no patent for the pin clip despite the Pat Pend mark. Trifari referred to the entire 1948 fruit salad series by the name 'Fragonard' - see Womens Wear Daily, 20 Feb 1948, p 18
