Description: gold plated base metal, rhinestones. The top of the pin, comprising the cross and a band around the top amethsyt stone, has been lost, and the break smoothed out.
Marked: UEUQ 1955 has been engraved on the back
Reference: Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2 p 156, part of the 'Coronation Gems' of 1953, advertised as a group that year. Click thumbnail above to view advertisement. The Trifari mark was on the part broken off: for what is missing, see the advert and TKF5499. TKF151 had the same 'UEUQ 1955' inscription on the back. Roberta Matthews emailed us in 2010 to explain the inscription (on a 1939 Trifari piece): 'my family were members of the UEUQ Society in Memphis, Tennessee', involved in Carnival Memphis, an annual event which created a royal court and held a Crown & Sceptre ball, which probably explains their customised inscriptions on Trifari jewelry.
