Description: rhodium plated base metal, rhinestones, faux aquamarine crystals
Marked: Pennino, Pat Pend
Reference: There is no exact patent despite the mark. The design, and non-use of sterling, suggest this is from 1940, when a similar tree pin clip (with pearl apples), similarly marked, was actually patented - for which see Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 2 p 6 and DUJ337. Ettinger, Forties and Fifties Popular Jewelry, p. 37, a group photo with Pennino pieces, three of which have the same petals as this piece, alphabetically labelled but with no identification key shown, captioned by the author as 1940, priced from $7.50 to $28.50; click thumbnail above to view.
