Reference: One of six figures in the 'Men from Mars' set of conversation piece pins, released by Martha Sleeper in Spring 1941, featured in the Birmingham [AL] Post Herald, 14 Feb 1941, p 3; click thumbnail above to view. Priced at $2, each was shipped with a name and identifying verse - in this case "My names Joe Hooey but call me Moe/ When invaders come they have to go/ I hardly ever have to fight; They look at me and die of fright" (quoted Detroit Evening Times, 10 Apr 1941, p 23). Martha Sleeper was named as designer in the Broadway Hollywood advert, in the Los Angles Times, 29 Jan 1941, p 22. There is no patent despite the mark.
