Marked: Pat 2038343 on clip
Reference: Patent (for clip mechanism) is reproduced below (scroll down); designer Gaston Candas of NYC, dated 1935-36. The clip was also used in the Coro Charlie McCarthy pin clip, suggesting (along with design and construction) the attribution to Coro - see Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 1 p 94. Design, construction, and non-use of Sterling date this to 1936-42
