Description: rhodium plated base metal, rhinestones, enamelling, poured glass
Marked: Pat 2038343
Reference: Patent (for clip mechanism) is reproduced below (scroll down); designer Gaston Candas of NYC, dated 1935-36. The clip was also used in the Coro Charlie McCarthy pin clip, suggesting the attribution to Coro - see Brunialti, American Costume Jewelry - Art and Industry (2008) Vol 1 p 94. Mark, design, construction, and non-use of Sterling date this to 1936-42. This is based on a Van Cleef and Arpels design of 1937, formerly in the Duchess of Windsor's collection - see http://www.katerinaperez.com/2014/03/10/hancocks-jewellers-tefaf/
